Foie gras—which literally means "fatty liver" in French—is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese
with metal pipes until their livers swell up to ten times their normal size. Many birds become so sick
from the process that they can't even walk. All this, just so people can eat their liver?

How You Can Help

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of compassionate citizens, foie gras is now illegal in California and Chicago. Now we need your help to make Austin a foie gras-free city. The hundreds of thousands of ducks tortured and killed each year for foie gras have no voice, so it's up to us to speak for them.

Here's what you can do:

  • Join local activists for weekly protests outside restaurants that serve foie gras.

  • Sign the petition to Austin City Council members, asking that they follow the lead of the city of Chicago, the state of California, and 15 other nations by banning foie gras in our fine city.
  • Write, call, and e-mail restaurants and stores in the area that still sell foie gras, and let them know that the people of Austin don't support torturing animals for a so-called "delicacy."
